Greetings!
The fever, swelling, and pain that came on Tuesday night turned out to be a seroma. For those of us unfamiliar with this term, here is a
description:
* A seroma is the accumulation of fluid, fat, serum, and lymph in an area of the body where trauma or surgery has occurred. It usually forms beneath a recent surgical wound. It is a common, benign, but very bothersome complication for the patient and manifests as a well-circumscribed skin
swelling, discomfort when pressed, and fluid drainage from the wound.
It typically occurs in the dead space left after tissue removal and can also become infected and cause a fever, as your body is fighting infection.
That was the culprit that caused such a severe reaction around 7:00 pm Tuesday, as Martin was preparing to make a show. There was a nurse at the apartment with them, but they returned to the clinic Wednesday morning. The lymph area was drained, relieving the pressure, and the fever was addressed.
Martin had some extreme throat pain, but
last night he was able to swallow comfortably, drink and speak.
The audio messages I received late last night from Maria and her son, Sebastian, were a relief. They sounded in good spirits and Martin's pain level had decreased.
I haven't heard from anyone yet this morning, but it sounded like things are shifting in a good direction now, thank God.
Martin wanted me to get this message to you all. Thank you!
