Jesus Christ's revelation to Israel (when He came to earth as a Jew) is not nearly as high as His revelation to Paul, when He came as a blinding light too glorious to look at. In Romans, Paul tells
the nations to stop wrestling against sin. In 1 John, the apostle of Christ tells Israel that no one naming the name of Christ will dare sin—they sure as hell BETTER be wrestling against it. These divergent instructions are not meant to be reconciled. They CAN'T be reconciled. They belong to two different gospels (Galatians 2:7).
