Too man people don't understand what a metaphor is, and it costs them dearly in the realm of theology—and logic. This whole Israelite Replacement Theology business—that is, the belief that the nations "spiritually" fulfill God's promises to Abraham, is based in part on the misunderstanding of simple metaphors. When Paul says that we the nations "are the sons of Abraham" (Galatians 3:7), it is a metaphor. It doesn't mean that we literally become the sons of Abraham when we
believe (our DNA doesn't change when we believe), but that we are like sons of Abraham (too bad Paul didn't
use the simile; the metaphor is just like it only stronger) in one (and only one) very important aspect: We simply believe God when He says something.
Here is that very lesson from a September, 2014 ZWTF about how we,
the nations, are similar to Abraham in one very important aspect that has nothing to do with either Circumcision or law, or with some how becoming something as ridiculous and unscriptural as "spiritual Israel."
