The cross of Christ is the centerpiece of our gospel but not of the gospel of Israel. A Jew can believe in Christ without the cross or even the death of Christ (witness the twelve disciples, who believed in Him before He died). For us, however, the death of Christ saves us and the cross destroys our old humanity, making us a new creation. Israel has never heard of any of this and nor were they taught it. It is not for them.
