Dear Fellow Believers,
Over the years, I have been inspired by certain films that God has put His finger on and said,
"This is you," or "This is your situation," or "This is how I do things." So fascinating to me that the worldly creators of such films tap into more truth than the professional clergymen who claim overtly to be doing so.
Two films I have in mind at this time are "Erin Brockovich," and "Field of Dreams." Over the years, God has used both of these films to keep me plugging away when I've been on the
brink of despair. In the summer of 2001, at a conference in Willard, Ohio, I talked about it to the gathered faithful.
Erin Brockovich was a common woman who took on the giant corporation Pacific Gas and Electric that was knowingly allowing poisonous waste-water into the ground that sickened, even unto death, hundreds of citizens of the small town of Hinkley, California. God pointed to this and said,
"The poisonous waste-water is the doctrine of eternal torment that sickens and even kills the inhabitants of earth, though they know not the source."
In "Field of Dreams," Kevin Costner hears a voice that says, "Build it, and he will come." The "he" was a disgraced, deceased baseball player named Joe Jackson who was accused, with several of his teammates, of throwing the 1919 World Series. They were
banned from baseball. Costner would bring back "Shoeless" Joe Jackson and his teammates, allowing them to live the dream of playing baseball again. But to do this, Costner (Ray Kinsella) had to plow under his cash crop and build a baseball diamond in the middle of nowhere—much to the chagrin and ridicule of most who knew him. But not only would these disgraced players enter into a field of grace (and faith), but the field would become a place for thousands to flock in order to relive the joys of
youth—the joys of watching baseball.
So take this trip with me, as I know that you will. Perhaps you will think of films you have watched that nudged you to remember some great truth of God.
Rodney worked extra hard on this production, using clips from the films at just the right places for just the right
effect. I mean, Rodney sweated for hours over this—even more than Shoeless Joe and Erin Brockovich.
You are in for a real surprise at the end of this video. Rodney gave my book "Flawed by Design" to a friend of his, and then she...well, you have to wait until the end of the video to find out what she did.
Grace and
peace to you, my dear friends and fellow believers, whose love and support sustain me by the hour. Together, we await the greatest production (with REAL special effects) that will ever touch our mortal frames: the snatching away of the body of Christ.
Remaining yours in love and faith from the edge of the bottom of the Floridan peninsula,
Martin
