Our brother Peter Meye teaches that the Christ Jesus of Philippians 2:7, Who empties Himself, is figurative, but the Christ Jesus of Philippians 2:8, Who humbles Himself, is literal. How can this be? In spite of Paul's testimony that this is the same Being (Christ) doing two different yet very real things, Peter accedes to the one thing while rejecting the other. Peter believes in Christ's death on the cross (at which time Christ humbled Himself), but not in Christ's giving up the form of
God to come to be in fashion as a human (at which time He emptied Himself.) To suit his own belief system, Mr. Meye dismisses the one act while accepted the other—with no Scriptural or even rational reason for doing so.
