My friend Johnny Greene, who I was certain was founded on the truths of Paul’s gospel, has proven himself to be anything but with a pair of videos calling the truth of “once saved, always saved” a false teaching. I couldn’t believe it myself when it was first reported to me. But I play it for you right here
on this video and you can hear it for yourself.
Since I was saved 2,000 years ago at the cross (“ONCE SAVED”), the only way I can be “NO LONGER SAVED” is if someone could go back in time and pry Christ off the cross. This teaching is repulsive to grace and must be exposed, and the teacher rebuked. Since Christ clearly CANNOT be pried off the cross, then
I am “ALWAYS SAVED,” and nothing I do can wreck that salvation.
This is not Johnny’s teaching. Mr. Greene claims that CONTINUAL SIN can wreck our salvation, and unless we continuously repent of our sins, then we are not among the elect. Johnny is teaching conditional salvation. This is an Israelite gospel. It is decidedly not Paul’s gospel. The problem
is that Johnny is mixing his Israelite gospel with parts of Paul’s message, making it the anathema gospel warned of by our apostle.
The anathema ("cursed") gospel is Paul’s gospel of grace watered down with law, making grace no longer grace. The apostle himself explains it this way: “Some who are disturbing you want also to distort the evangel of
Christ” (Galatians 1:7).
This precisely—and unfortunately, because he’s my friend—describes Mr. Greene’s “gospel.” It is a distortion of the evangel of Christ. Instead of a help to the body of Christ, Johnny has become one who is disturbing the saints. His channel has a thousand subscribers and these videos have nearly two-hundred views. Shockingly,
these Baptist-style threats can spread like gangrene.
Johnny talks a lot about repentance in these videos. Hopefully, he himself will repent of these teachings. I pray that this loving but firm correction hurries that day along.
