Our sister Ashley and her two friends can’t understand why God would reward certain believers (who are said to be flawless in His sight) and levy demerits (burn up the works) of other believers (also said to be flawless in God’s sight) at the dais of Christ (2 Corinthians 5:10; 1 Corinthians 3:11-15)—despite the fact that this is exactly what God says He does. In this, Ashley and
her two friends are sitting in judgement of God.
The hypothetical objector of Romans 9:19, when informed of THE FACT that God blames the very people whom He Himself has hardened, says, “Why, then, is He still blaming? For who has withstood His intention?” (Romans 9:19.) Paul does not even deign to answer the question. Instead, the apostle indignantly
roars, “O man! who are you, to be sure, who are answering again to God?” (Romans 9:20).
We have a similar situation here. These three young people, who have apparently been educated in the ways of the “progressive” political theory of “equality of outcome,” do not believe that such a thing would be fair, let alone possible.
And yet...
