If I were to tell you that we have a great, unconquerable power within us, you might ask, “Where is it?” I know. We don’t feel it very often. But it is the power that causes us to believe the evangel. The fact that you believe the evangel and the eonian plan of God proves that this power is within you. It is the same power that raised Christ Jesus from the dead.
But here’s the glitch: we have this power in a very small amount. Paul calls it “an earnest,” that is, it’s a downpayment. It’s like your rich aunt, who is a billionaire, has promised to leave you all of her wealth. The problem is, Aunt Polly is still alive. But Aunt Polly goes to the bank and withdraws a thousand dollars from her 5 billion dollar account,
and gives that money to you, telling you, “This is an earnest of your inheritance. It is a promise of the rest.”
This is how it works with the spirit of God within us. It is nothing less than the actual spirit of God. Even though the amount is miniscule, it is more than the rest of the world has, for we believe the evangel. Paul is telling us in
Ephesians chapter 1 that this spirit is the same spirit that raised Christ from the dead, and that, when we get the full inheritance, it will cause our bodies to be transformed from mortal to immortal and seat us at the right hand of God.
Told you it was powerful.
