The pre-teen shepherd boy who defeats the mighty Philistine Goliath (from Gath, of all places) is the gift that keeps giving. Our Lord Himself surely read and re-read this account (along with Joseph's astounding career arc, recorded in Genesis) to encourage Himself as He faced off against the popular, murderous religion of His day. I recommend that we do the same.
