The King James Version of Isaiah 52:14 seems to indicate that our Lord's face was so ruined by His captors that He could barely be recognized as human. Those holding to this theology then cannot believe that the Shroud of Turin is authentic, as the face of the image of the shroud is clearly recognizable as
that of a man. And not only the face, but the form of Christ is said to be "more [marred] than the sons of men."
But how can this be? Many human bodies have been reduced practically to nothing by things like crushing rock, fire, even nuclear blasts. What are we missing here?
We're missing the Concordant Version of Isaiah 52:14. Get ready to completely reevaluate this passage we think we know so well. Even the Concordant Version is tricky, but when has the World's Most Outspoken Bible Scholar ever been intimidated by "tricky?"
