Christians live in the fear that what they want for their lives can trump what Christ wants for their lives. In other words, Christians writhe continuously under this unconscious arrogance that they must do something to align themselves with Christ, and that Christ is drumming His fingers on the table,
waiting for them to do so.
This leads to the Christian teaching of "surrender," or "giving your life over to Christ." This sounds well and good until we read in Paul of being crucified with Christ, Christ living in us, and there being a "new I" operating even while we carry around these old flesh buggies (Galatians 2:20). This, I suppose, is the key to
true peace.
