Well, no, God could never be taken by surprise. The very name "God"—"El" in the Hebrew) means "Subjecter." (Not "Wonderer" or, "Gosh-What-Just-Happened-er.") We humans, on the other hand, get bushwhacked by life's events daily. So imagine MY surprise when Friday's commenter said, concerning the sovereignty of God (or lack thereof) that some evil things "CAN take God by surprise."

Wha...?! Don't you, with me, want to know what evil situation could be so big (or so small) that it could bring shock and bewilderment to the countenance of the almighty El? (A surprise requires that something be unforeseen.) And then, upon discovering that our God could be bushwhacked right along with us, wouldn't you, with me, want to begin shopping for a new Deity?
