Satan used to engage in frontal attacks against the human race, thinking that physical and emotional violence would break the human spirit. But broken humans habitually turned to God. As for the frontal attack against Christ, THAT resulted in the salvation of the world.
Frustrated, Satan changed tactics. His desire to crush the human spirit included an incitement for them to sin. But this also turned against him, because, in the new order following the crucifixion, sin inspired more grace. What was the most malevolent enemy of Christ to do?
This: Turn people into self-righteous autocrats who then imagine they're the best friends Christ ever had but who are, in fact, enemies of the cross. How in the world could THAT come about? By the invention of doctrines of demons, namely, Free Will, Eternal Torment, and the Trinity—and an inexhaustible desire to FIGHT the very enemy dismantled by Christ: Sin.
